Artist Statement:
From still life to real life, from marbles, postage stamps and comic books to portraits of keenly observed passers-by, ordinary objects and ordinary people resonate in the mind of the artist. Perhaps an amalgam informed by Northern Renaissance and 20th century artists, the work celebrates the quotidian with graphite and paint. Assiduously considered, the humble subject echoes the illusive interiority of human culture while suggesting the transformative, meditative otherness of mark-making and pure color.
